His latest, Wish Upon, is still a bargain by studio horror standards at $12 million, though it opens with a lot less hype than the creepy doll, who was also a pre-established "star," so to speak the biggest name in Wish Upon is Ryan Phillippe, best known currently for the TV version of Shooter, with cameos from Sherilyn Fenn and Stranger Things' Barb, Shannon Purser. Given enough chances, however, he did finally hit box-office paydirt with Annabelle, the spinoff of The Conjuring that made over $84 million on a $6.5 million budget, and has already spawned a sequel that's coming out next month (when your star is a doll, she won't demand a pay raise).

As a director, however, often on sequels to projects he lensed, his projects have been less illustrious, from the mess that was Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (a franchise-killing $35 million domestic grosser) to the direct-to-video The Butterfly Effect 2 and Wolves at the Door. Leonetti has earned a great deal of respect for his work on movies like The Mask, Mortal Kombat, and The Conjuring.
